BIO

Magda Vášáryová is a Slovak politician, a member of Slovak Parliament, diplomat and former actress. In 1993 she established and was the first director of Slovak Foreign Policy Association (SFPA). She was ambassador in Austria (1990 – 1993) and in Poland (2000 – 2005). Later she worked as state secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovak Republic. She is involved in non-governmental organizations, founded and led Via Cultura NGO; Institute for Cultural Policy which is the first think-thank in Slovakia focusing on cultural policy and critical thinking in the field of arts, and she also publishes a quarterly magazine “Kultúrny kyslík“. She is chairwoman of Živena – the oldest women’s association in Slovakia. Magdaléna Vášáryová is author of several books and scientific articles published in Slovak and also international press focusing on cultural policy, foreign and domestic politics, political situation in Central Europe and energy security.
